Finally, Magellan, a bit of history, for those intrepid dogs which like adventure so much, would sound a bit over the top but funny, nevertheless.

Most people talk about the recession like it’s a terrible thing.

For some people the current economic crisis has been horrible. But for many folks there’s never been a better time to discover how to make money in a recession than right now, when you’re in one, which we officially are. Bucking the “herd” mentality trend and focusing on finding opportunities to make more money you will discover that this recession is not all bad.

Negativity is big business.

The media feeds the flames of pessimism and negativity. It’s extremely hard to tune out all the talk about “global recession,” “financial crisis,” “layoffs,” and “corporate bankruptcy.” The best remedy for fighting this negative mindset and escaping the herd is to turn off your television. For the most part the businesses that are doing poorly right now are the businesses that haven’t been taking care of people’s needs. While poor business practices have gotten the American people into this current financial crisis, only good business practices can get us out of it.

That is the surest way to discover how to make money in a recession: finding, investing, building, and developing businesses which take care of the needs of the customer, and ensure value is provided value first. Doing business this way organizations large and small develop raving customers and brand themselves as great companies.

As an individual, making money in a recession is much the same process. It’s important to deliver value to your market first, before worrying about making a profit. Now I’m not encouraging you to not think about money, building a business is centered around it’s ability to earn revenue. I am encouraging you to think of your customers first. How can you serve people by providing value?

Where do you come up with ideas to make money?

Look at the world around you and think, “who needs something”

  • What portion of the population needs help solving a problem?
  • Who is not being well represented in the media and needs an image makeover?
  • Where are the pressing issues, causes and concerns occupying the minds of many people?
  • When was there a time in history that most reflects today?
  • Why do we have so many issues that seem to defy solutions?
  • How can you make the world a better place?

Those are just some quick ideas to get you started down the right path toward making money. The biggest shift that needs to happen to get you out of the pessimistic “herd” mentality and in the mindset of making money is to think about the needs of others first.

When you can come up with a real solution to help people is when you move beyond the pessimism that is running rampant through the world today. It can be difficult. People do lose jobs, hours get cut, accidents happen, and people are struggling to stay afloat. But you don’t have to be a victim.

By changing your perception of the world around you you can find many opportunities where before you found none. By tapping into the needs of others and creating real value for the people of the world you can live consciously and make a profit while doing it. There’s nothing wrong with making money. Overcoming the “herd” mentality is the first step down the road toward a better more profitable life.

How to Make Money from ATMs

With ATM cash machines currently costing anywhere from $3,000 to $30,000, there is no doubt that buying one for your business is costly. If you arrange things right, however, buying an ATM can actually be a very sound investment.

Provided that you primarily manage the machine yourself, ongoing maintenance costs shouldn’t be too high. You’ll have to pay for the electricity to fun the machine, as well as around $40/month for a dedicated phone line, and $50 each time the machine is professionally re-loaded.

Improve Search Engine Rankings With One-Way Backlinks

A couple of years ago, getting ranked really well in the search engines was a pretty easy task. I’m talking rankings in the top 10 for almost any keyword phrase you wanted.

All it took was a little research and effort, and within about a month or so, you could find your website listed in the top 10 rankings for just about any term you could want.

But, times have changed and it’s getting really difficult to get good rankings for all but the least used keyword phrases.

I know people are now teaching others to use what are called “long-tail” keyword phrases, but let’s face it– what good is it going to really do your website to be ranked #1 for a phrase like “why does my dog get fleas and how do I get rid of them?” if it’s only searched for once a year?

Why The New Search Algorithms Came About…

It wasn’t to long ago when you could simply trade links with other “like-minded” websites and webmasters, and this would really help your websites rankings.

Problem is– so many people started using very poor linking scripts, and everyone’s link directories all started looking the same. It got so bad in fact, that these scripts would even do automatic links between websites who were using the same linking script!

After you start getting 3 million websites all linking together, and linking to the exact same things and websites, well it can really kill the results in the search engines, so something had to change.

What Really Matters In Backlinks Today?

After much testing and research, what seems to make the biggest impact in your sites rankings today is what are called “One-Way” backlinks.

These are simply links that are pointing to your website without any returning links pointing back from your website to the other website.

Another very important thing about backlinking that seems to really help is making sure that the linked text pointing to your website DOES NOT always use the exact same keyword phrase for every backlink!

In other words, if your main keyword phrase you like to have pointing to your website from other websites is “dog behavior training“, DO NOT use that keyword phrase all of the time, otherwise it can be looked on as spamming by the search engines.

It’s better to use a 60%, 30%, 10% strategy for backlinked keyword phrases. For example, you might use “dog behavior training” 60% of the time, “dog obedience training” 30% of the time, and “stop dog chewing” only 10% of the time.

This way, you won’t have a problem of being dropped from a search engines index for spamming reasons.

Summary: Today, it’s best to have a combination of links pointing to your websites, with One-Way Backlinks being the most important.

Use a 60%, 30%, 10% keyword phrase backlink strategy to get the best performance from your efforts.

Return Of The Monster

The Monster of the title is none other than Dollar Monster. Anyone who had dealings with Dollar Monster previously believed the beast had been slain by its owners but, it seems, it had just been banished and now is baaaaaaaaaack (as it says in its ads). Presumably the owners of Dollar Monster believe they have remained out of sight long enough for people to have forgiven or forgotten the events of 2004.

Dollar Monster pretends to be a friendly little monster who will help you to make money. It says: “DollarMonster’s #1 priority is helping you make money!” In fact, its clear from the website that Dollar Monster will make the money for you and you can just sit back in your easy chair and do nothing. Dollar Monster claims to be the lazy person’s way of making money; that should be a big enough hint that this program does not offer a legitimate way to make money.

Dollar Monster is a money doubler. Money Doubler programs enjoyed a brief spell of popularity back in 2004. Their popularity ended as one money doubler program after another closed owing members large sums of money and the whole money doubler industry was exposed as being a scam consisting of numerous pyramid schemes. The surprising thing is that the new Dollar Monster website refers to 2004 and to the notorious Easy Chair Club (sometimes described as the biggest Internet scam in recent history). It would seem more sensible for this site to pretend to have no connection whatsoever with the Easy Chair Club or the Dollar Monster that existed in 2004. In fact, it would seem more sensible to open up using an entirely different name because the people who joined Dollar Monster (or its sister site, My Magic Doubler) the first time round aren’t going to be sucked in again and will warn people not to take part in the program.

The way money doublers work is that you pay money to the program, other people sign up after you and also pay money in. When enough has been paid in by new members, you get paid double the amount you first invested. The people whose money was used to pay you, get paid when members have paid enough cash in after them and so on…

When money doubler programs are first launched, the cycle time is very short (it can be a matter of hours) but as more people join the cycle time gets longer because the number of new members required to cycle existing member positions grows exponentially. Eventually, the cycle time becomes so long the program ceases to attract new members and, when the cash injections dry up, the doubler stalls. With no new recruits bringing in cash, the members on the lowest level don’t get double their money back, they lose all the money they paid in. At this point, the program and its owner normally disappear.

Money Doubler programs can survive for anything from a matter of hours up to several months. The ones that disappear within hours are normally run by outright crooks who had no intention of paying any money out to anyone. As soon as they have obtained a substantial sum of cash, they just vanish with it. If you are lucky you might avoid these particular crooks and might even make some money. One thing that is guaranteed is that if you aren’t lucky enough to join at the right time, you will lose your money.

I hope the return of Dollar Monster does not signal the start of a new money doubler craze. People who were not around in 2004 might take to money doublers as a replacement for the rapidly declining autosurf for cash programs. In 2004 I fell for the story that money doublers were legitimate programs and the money they paid out came from advertising revenue. I speak from experience when I say that if you want to make money on the Internet, you have to work for it. Dollar Monster and similar money doubler programs are not an alternative to working for a living.

Selling Trick - The Free Test Drive

What is the best way to sell anything? Great price? Great salesmanship? Big sale? Great conditions?

All of the above definitely help you sell your product… but the best and the easiest way to sell anything is to let your customer “Test Drive” your product for a period of time.

For example: Would you buy a dog after just going to the store and playing with it in the store? Even if the dog was the cutest and smartest dog in the world. Most people would want to “think” about it first.

But, what if the store owner told you that you could take the dog home for a week to see if this is the right dog for your family.

If you thought that the dog was cute or smart or for whatever reason you like the animal; most people would agree and be thrilled to take the dog home for a week.

The worst case scenario would be that the dog is terrible and you would be able to bring the dog back earlier; but the best case scenario (for the person trying to sell the dog) would be that you take the dog home. Fall in love with the dog; have the kids cry at the end of the week when you say that you have to bring it back; and then instead of bringing the dog back you just go to the store and purchase the dog from store.

A win win situation for the both of you. You have figured out that your family loves the dog, you love the dog and you couldn’t imagine life without the dog. And the store owner gets to make the sale.

But would you and your family have fallen in absolute love with the dog if you didn’t bring it home for a week first?

What about programs on the internet? You would never fork out three hundred dollars for a course on how to make money online. But have you ever tried the one month trial? And because its free you check it out and then figure out later that the information is pure gold and then you can justify to yourself paying the price.

Whatever product you are selling; if it is possible to let your customer have a free “test drive” - that is the most effective way to make a sale.
