Simple and Advanced SEO Hints and Tips

Published by Admin under Beijing Olympic Games

The SEO hints and tips you find here will not only show you how to optimize a web page properly, but also get you high Google listings and masses of free traffic. That is worth every penny you might spend on the right information.

You no doubt understand all the basic stuff, but in case you are new to this, let’s first have look at these basic SEO hints and tips, since many seem to omit them from their web pages. The most important are the HTML tags that are used by search engines to determine the relevance of your page to the search term used by the search engine’s customer.

Note the term ‘web page’, because many people don’t realize that Google, along with most other search engines, doesn’t list websites, but individual web pages. You have to understand how search engines calculate your listings if you are to understand how to optimize a web page.

I am going to refer to Google, not only because it is the biggest of the search engines, but also to save the bother of referring to search engines all the time. I will refer to Google, but what applies to them also applies to the rest. Here are the main SEO basics:

a) The TITLE tag. This appears in the HEAD portion of your html, and is not actually seen by your visitors but is the most important tag on your web page because the spiders place very high weight to it. Use your main keywords here, and also any other text that will inform Google of the theme of your web page.

b) Heading (H) tags. Your page title should be placed within H1 tags, and should contain the same major keyword as you used in the TITLE tag. Any subheadings should be contained within H2 tags. I don’t use any of the lower tags, from H3 down, except perhaps H3 very occasionally. Google will regard any text with H tags as being important, with most weight given to the lower numbers. However, if you place everything in H1 tags, that will dilute its importance on your page and defeat the object.

c) Text enhancements: Use bold, italic and underline enhancements sparingly, and where you one again want to stress the importance of certain keywords.

d) Your keyword density should be concentrated in the first third of your web page. Don’t use too many: I get good results with under 1% overall keyword density, but using the main keyword in the first 100 characters, once in the last paragraph and once more each 300 words but concentrated in the first third of the page. Thus, an 800 word page will have the keyword three times in the first 250 words and once in the last paragraph.

e) Meta tags: the only meta tag worth using is the description tag, which is used by most search engines in the description of your web page in their listings. Google mainly uses it exactly as you write it. The keyword tag can also be used, but few search engines are thought to use it: Google does not. Any other meta tags are a waste of your space. Anybody that claims differently is wanting to sell you something.

These are the basic hints on SEO, now here are some of the more advanced SEO hints and tips that will teach you not only how to optimize a web page, but to understand the way that search engines work. These are less obvious, and generally not used by beginners to search engine marketing.

f) Use text links to other pages on your website. Search engine spiders love text, and fancy graphics or java links might look great, but don’t get you kudos from the spiders. Stick to text if you want a good listing: there’s no point in fancy graphical links if you have no visitors to use them.

g) Try to use as much text as possible, and as little code as possible. Your code to text ratio should be minimized as far as possible because . . . yes, you’ve got it! Spiders love text!

h) Another useful SEO tip is to maximise your off page linking strategy. It is possible to get a #1 spot on Google with no content: just loads of links coming into your web page from other websites. Not just any websites, but authority sites, so reciprocal links to and from web pages not directly related to your niche are a waste of time, and can even harm you. Link farms can positively damage you.

i) Use anchor text for your links where at all possible. Google shouldn’t have to work out what your web page is about: tell them. Hyperlink your keyword to your website, but don’t use the same form of keyword from every webpage linking to yours. Mix them about so as to keep the links fresh.

j) And lastly: keep adding pages to your website. A single website containing 80 pages will likly provide you with more visitors that two of 40 pages due to a higher overall Google listing from the former as compared to both of the 40 page sites. Refresh your content frequently by adding new pages, but don’t ignore your older pages: rdevise these now and again with new vocabulary. Google detests stagnation.

These are just a few SEO hints and tips that can teach you how to optimize a web page. There are many, many more. Some quite basic, others very much more advanced than the above. However, you can’t get everything free!

Get Tons of Free Organic Google Traffic!

Published by Admin under Beijing Olympic Games

There are no secrets to getting plenty of free search engine traffic. Provide what people are searching for in the form of high quality content, and lots of it. The old saying that content is king is still true. You do need high quality content, and content that people are searching for. Fortunately there are ways to find out what it is people are searching for, and we can briefly examine them.

After you’ve chosen a topic, hopefully a topic that a lot of people are interested in, you will need to find out exactly what key words and key word phrases people use when searching for information about your topic. This can be done with one of several keyword tools that are available online. By using the keyword tools you can find out what groups of words are really used by searchers, and which ones are wastes of time. If no one searches for a phrase, then ranking number one on Google for that phrase won’t do you a bit of good. The keyword research tools provide you with all kinds of ways of finding out what key words to optimize for and they even tell you how hard it will be to achieve a high ranking in the search engines with a particular word or phrase.

Before we get any further I would like to point out that the goal of the search engines is to find the most relevant results of the search for the HUMAN doing the search. The search engines are pretty smart, and getting smarter all the time. They are looking for high quality content, but even the best search engine software cannot determine easily whether content is of high quality nor not. However there are clues and things the search engines can base decisions about the quality of the content on, both on the page and off.

For instance, the engines can determine that the text has a large number of spelling errors, something you would not expect to find with great content. Even grammar and punctuation can be taken into consideration.

Search engines cannot read images. To get the attention of the engines you need text, and lots of it. I like to use 500 to 800 words per web page. The more pages the better. Each page should be optimized for two or three keyword phrases. It’s very important to write for humans, not for search engines…they can tell the difference. Make sure you run your work through a spell checker, and better yet, a word processor that will check your grammar as well. And don’t forget to check the punctuation. If, in the eyes of the search engines, two sites have nearly identical quality scores and one has poor grammar or punctuation and the other doesn’t, then guess who gets the higher ranking.

Keep it simple! I’m sure there are a lot of great sites with great content and high rankings that are not simple. But unless you are into that stuff there is no need. Chances are a human searching for information about a topic would prefer a simple site that is easy to navigate, easy to read, and easy to locate the desired information on, than a fancy sight with lots of graphics and or flash etc.

Use a logical linking scheme for your site’s internal links. The engines will be examining your links for clues about which pages are the most important and what your topic is. They must also be able to follow the links if you want your pages listed in the search engine results. Put some of your keywords in the link text, and in the text surrounding the link. But don’t get crazy, just a light sprinkling of key word phrases will do the trick.

Avoid using single-word keywords. Not only is it easier to get good rankings for multiple word keyword phrases, the traffic you get will be more tightly targeted and you should therefore get more sales or signups or whatever the goal of your site is.

Make use of the bold and heading tags to present a hierarchy of the importance of your content to the engines.

Avoid cluttering up your pages with advertisements and links. Page clutter is something the engines can determine. They can look at the ratio of ad links to text, total number of links, graphics placements, what is above the fold on a page, and lots more. This is another reason to keep your pages and navigation clean and simple. Oh yeah, humans like clean and simple too.

Include a few images and work some keywords into the image alt tags. Some of my sites get a surprising amount of traffic from Google’s image search. So put text in the alt image tag that is related to the picture, perhaps get it into the file name for the image, and in some nearby text, which can help Google figure out what the image is about.

Once you have your high quality content in place with your simple and straight forward site navigation worked out, it’s time to look at what you can do to obtain some good links to your site from other quality sites. After all, there could be thousands of pages of pretty much identical information about any given topic online, and how is a search engine to figure out which is the best? One way is to evaluate the quantity and quality of incoming links to your site from other sites.

High quality content will attract some links, but if you actively seek out links from other quality sites you can speed things up. Avoid linking with large numbers of sites in a short amount of time, like what happens when you join a link farm. Google prefers to see a slow steady increase in links as though it were a natural human endeavor. If a huge number of links pops up overnight Google doesn’t count them as very important. The same is true if huge numbers of links have identical link text. Google will take note and reduce their value.

The more pages you have, the better your chances of being included in the search results from those billions of daily searches, and thus the more traffic you will receive. It’s all just a numbers game.

Once you have all of that stuff in place, then you have to wait. Typically with a new site, you may get a little initial activity through Google for a few weeks, then you will drop off the map for up to a year with Google. That is what is known as being in Google’s sand box. After a year or so your site will start being listed in the search results and things will start looking up.

Get online and investigate those keyword tools so you can choose a great niche topic for your next website.

Text Format For SEO

Published by Admin under Beijing Olympic Games

Another good tip for SEO is actually the types of text you can use in a webpage. There are several different types of text which search engines see as more important types of text than others.

1) H1 - H1 text in my eyes is the most important type of text to use if possible. Search engines see H1 text as very important text, and it is a really good idea to get all your keywords into this particular format.

2) Bold Text - Search engine will also give a certain type amount of ranking power to bold text compared to standard non-bold text. It can be useful to use bold text occasionally if it looks ok on your page. I would not be too concerned about bold as long as you can get your keywords into the H1 text.

3) Strong text - This can be used for highlighting text instead of using the older bold tag. You can use the strong tag to highlight the words 2 or 3 times throughout the page.

4) Links - If you use links to inner pages, try using your keywords to do this - this will give the pages you are linking to extra power for the search terms you are using. For example using ‘text format for SEO’ linking to a page which has search terms for this phrase will benefit the page for that search term.

So these are just a few ways in how using different types of text can help you when you are optimising a web page for keywords. The most important type of text for search engines is the H1 text - try and get this text as close to the top left hand side of the page as possible as search engines read from the top left.

Search Engine Optimizaion and Social Media

Published by Admin under Beijing Olympic Games

Most of us spend many hours online, and shoppers are no exception. Many businesses have an online store that helps bring in new customers everyday and anytime. The Internet has made this possible, and there are new forms of social media that have generated widespread popularity due to their ease of access over the Internet. You can expand your online business’s reach even further when you use search engine optimization with a knowledgeable search engine optimization service and apply it to social media.

Some kinds of social media can include blogs, podcasts, e-mail, instant messaging, wikis, and more. What connects them all is the Internet, and because they are all online, the way many people access them is through a search engine.

Search engines are valuable because they are timesavers. Search engines index the words they find in the content available on the World Wide Web, and afterwards they allow you to look up keywords in their indices. They do this through the use of special search engine robots called spiders. The spiders usually begin their search with popular websites as well as those that have many links to them, and begin to index all of the words in the content contained on the webpages.

How the robots index the material is unique to each search engine, and a proprietary secret. However they do index the material, it is then made available to Internet users when they type their keywords into the search feature. The final output is the search engine results page with which we are all familiar.

A competent search engine optimization firm has analyzed all of the major search engines’ algorithms, as well as keywords found on the search engines’ indices. Using this knowledge, an seo service provider can create a new business website for you with ease of web crawling in mind, or can work with an existing business site and make it more compatible to search engine indexing.

This is important because if your website cannot be indexed fully, your site will not rank very high in a search engine results page. Many Internet users do not visit more than the first page of search results, which means if your site is buried farther back, chances are it will be overlooked. Now multiply that by all of the social media you use on and have connected to your site, and you can see that there will be many squandered opportunities to promote your business to interested consumers.

An SEO company can avert that dilemma. They can also help with selecting the most effective keywords that describes your business offerings, so that searchers will have a clear idea of what you provide. These customers will click on your site, blog, or podcast, and likely follow through with a sale because they easily found exactly what they wanted.

You can make sure that potential customers can find your business website and associated social media used there when you utilize the service of a quality SEO company.

Other Keyword Research Tools to Consider

Published by Admin under Beijing Olympic Games

You need keywords which are frequently used by web users, yet not in high demand among your competitors. In order to find these keywords, there are many keyword research tools out thee which you can use. Other than Wordtracker, there are other tools including Google AdWords tool and Guidebeam.

Overture’s keyword tool which used to be free and a bit more faster than Wordtracker; in terms of functionality, it was similar to Wordtracker but will not let you know how many other websites are targeting that keyword or key phrase. The tool though was discontinued; the alternative now is Google keyword tool. If you feed in one word, this tool will give you all of the relevant combinations using this word along with the number of searches performed for them. If you entered something which is not being used very much, no results will come up; this tells you that few, if any searches have been done for that word or phrase.

Google Keyword Tool gives you potential keywords for use in your SEO and marketing efforts and gives you the Google statistics on these terms, along with their search engine usage (and trends in the frequency of searches for these terms). Other features of Google Keyword Tool include:

  • Sorting the results for your chosen keyword by popularity, history in the AdWords program, cost and predicted position.
  • Simple keyword manipulation - you can select keywords individually or add a large number at once.
  • Searching for keywords in any URL you specify. The tool can also search on pages linked to or from that URL.
  • The database of statistics is regularly updated, so that new keywords and key phrases are available as they come up.Guidebeam:

Guidebeam dot com is another good keyword tool. Search for a keyword or key phrase and it will also suggest related searches. The statistics it gives for each keyword or phrase is weighted by relevance. All of these keyword tools can be a great help to those who need to perform keyword research for the purposes of SEO for their own website.

The Ultimate Strategies To Boost Your Pagerank

Published by Admin under Beijing Olympic Games

You may be interested about how to improve your pagerank. The methods to do this help you improve rankings as well, so you may want to know how to do this. There is a benefit behind it. But having a pagerank of seven means nothing at all if your website is not ranked anywhere for your niche keywords.

Getting one way links.

That is the number one method. Now there are many methods to get one way links. The more you get, the higher your pagerank. The faster you get them, the faster you see pagerank increase. Nothing too difficult to understand there.

Popular websites like youtube, google, yahoo and so on have a high pagerank simple because almost everyone links to them. They get many one way links automatically from people.

The higher the pagerank of the webpage that links to your site the better, because it gives your site more pagerank. The less outbound and inbound links on that webpage the better. Outbound links are links that point to other websites and inbound links are links that point to other webpages on that same site.

A one way link from a content website is always better than a one way link from a directory. One within an article is more better than one in the bio section of the article. Bio section is located just after the article. A link inside content is always better.

But how all this may help you. After all you are not going to spend all that amount of time to get one way links. However if you can hire someone you can give them specific instructions. They are going to do the work anyway not you. You might as well provide them clear instructions as to what you want, you get more benefits.

Instead of getting a thousand one way links from anywhere, you can get a hundred from pagerank six webpages. The main benefit is that it is easier and faster to get hundred than a thousand backlinks so you get backlinks faster and rankings improve faster.

So here are some other things to consider.

Now you need to decide which webpage on your website you want to have the highest pagerank. Usually it is the homepage. You can use nofollow tags to filter almost all your pagerank to your homepage. It means your other webpages will pass pagerank to the homepage. To do this simple link to your homepage whenever you can, just one link from each webpage.

Then put the nofollow tag on the links on your homepage that either point to your inner pages or to other websites. So your homepage does not pass any pagerank at all.

These help your rankings, simple because your homepage is getting many backlinks and it links to none.

So think carefully for a bit of time if you have a budget set aside to hire someone to help you in search engine optimization. You can make a big difference by taking in consideration some simple things that can help you get more powerful one way links in a short period of time.

Organic SEO Through Content Distribution

Published by Admin under Beijing Olympic Games

Organic SEO (Search Engine Optimization) seems to be the buzzword these days. What is organic SEO? In its simplest explanation, organic SEO is publicity through content distribution. All your incoming links originate from content you created for your website or blog. And boy, search engines love this kind of linking structure.

Marketing through articles is organic Search Engine Optimisation. Your article and the link in your author’s resource box generate incoming links from other niche websites related to yours.

Good quality original content will generate incoming links and drive targeted web traffic to your website fast. This is the kind of activity search engines love, and would in turn lead to higher web page ranking and increase in web traffic.

Writing Articles

This is an effective way of gaining publicity for yourself and your site. Write about your experiences, expertise, hobbies or passion. As a rule of thumb, keep your articles at about 400 to 700 words in length. The issue is not the length of the article. It is the quality of it. But for a start, it is good to adhere to the rule of thumb.

Tips on effective use of articles

Before you start to write, do a research on keyword phrases related to your topic of interest. There are a few free online webmasters’ tools you could utilize (nichebot.com, wordtracker trial). Normally, the top ranked keyword phrases are highly competitively. A top ranked keyword with little or zero competition is a rare find these days. Go for the middle ranked keyword phrase. After all, your goal is to be found on the first page of SERP for your selected keyword phrase.

Include your keyword phrase in your article title and repeat your keyword phrase at least once or twice in the body of your article. You may also want to use sparingly and strategically a variation of your keyword phrase or terms related to it. You may notice in this article I use SEO and Search Engine Optimization, which are interchangeable terms but to the search engines they are variations. I also use search engines and webmasters which are terms related to SEO.

Using a variation of your keyword phrase and terms related to it makes your article more relevant to your topic. With such an arrangement, chances are you may score well at the search engines for more than one keyword phrase.

Post your articles on your site, blog and article directories. Spreading your content all over the web is a fast way to get website visitors. I submit my articles to ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com and articlealley.com. These article directories work well for me. Their high rankings at the search engines give me good publicity.

Other webmasters related to your niche will pick up your high quality articles and link to your web page through your author’s resource box. This is an organic way of growing incoming links. Major search engines like Google look favorably on organically grown one-way links, and reward you.

Most webmasters archived articles for 1 or 2 years because this is a quick way to increase content and the size of their websites. So you can be assured of incoming links for at least 1 or 2 years.

It would be worth your time and effort to write or to hire someone to write keyword rich articles and distribute them over the web. The results can be astounding at times.

Why SEO is So Important

Published by Admin under Beijing Olympic Games

SEO - or search engine optimization - is crucial to the success of any website. While businesses can rely on Google AdWords or other similar schemes to rank highly in the search engine results, they need to have a reasonable budget in order to make this a reality, and the fact is that many smaller businesses simply cannot afford to do this kind of advertising, even though it can be very cost effective.

When that is the case, these websites clearly need to find another way to rank highly in the results - otherwise they aren’t going to be getting the bulk of the visitors coming to their site.

This is why SEO is so important, because it can literally make or break a website. Unfortunately many people create their own websites and they get so involved in the design and function of the site (which are admittedly equally as important) they forget that they also need to be able to attract the search engine spiders that will get them ranked in the top few results.

This means doing some research to find out which keywords should be included on their site, and again this is something that not every webmaster realises should be done.

The problem is partly that we are constantly told that content is king. Now it is perfectly true that the information included on any website needs to be top notch if it is to serve its purpose in the first place, but some people believe that content needs to come before everything else - even keywords.

This is a grave mistake to make if the business in question wants to pull in the right type of visitor. Each page of the site needs to be optimised for the search engines as well as for the potential customers, since that is where most of the customers will be coming from.

Like it or not, search engines have become a part of our everyday lives now, and if there is something we need or want to find out, a search engine is most often the first place online that we will go to. That is why SEO needs to be a constant and important part of any website, because good SEO practices and techniques will mean that more visitors will come to a website to see what is there. Once they are there the webmaster can wow them with their outstanding design and navigation, but they do still need to get them there in the first place, and for that to happen they need to think about search engine optimisation.

Of course, every aspect of a website - regardless of its purpose or what it might sell - is important, but while some people may argue over which aspect of a site is the most important one of all, there is no doubting that SEO must surely rank near the top of the list. If the website in question pays constant attention to this, they can soon expect to receive more visitors as a result.
